How to apply for funding for your film from Film i Västerbotten

Film i Västerbotten is used to receiving applications from individuals who have not submitted an application before. Please contact us if you have any questions. On the right are examples of the different parts of the application.

If we think something looks incorrect or strange in the application documents that you submit, we will let you know. If needed, you can resubmit that particular document.

If you prefer to write your script and/or other application documents in English, that’s fine.

Producer and team
Are you looking for a producer or someone else for the film team? We can make suggestions on who to contact.

Principal
Film i Västerbotten cannot give money to private individuals, so you have to have a principal (huvudman). A principal can be a company, a firm, a club (förening), a school or a study association (studieförbund). Contact us for suggestions on finding a principal. If you do not yet have a principal lined up when you apply, mark an X in the form where it asks you to identify your principal.

VAT?
Companies and firms can deduct VAT (moms), but this may not be the case with other principals. Find out if your principal can deduct VAT or not. If they can, you should make a budget without specifying VAT. If they cannot deduct VAT, the budget should include VAT. Principals that can deduct VAT send an invoice for the awarded amount + 25% VAT.
Does that sound crazy difficult? Stay calm. No worries. These are things that your Principal probably knows about. Please contact us if you have any questions.

The script
The script that you submit to New Voices must be complete. It is not possible to apply for money through New Voices for script development. But be prepared to get feedback on your script and that you may be asked to rewrite it. Remember that this is your film. All feedback is provided to help you make your film better.

Film equipment
Film i Västerbotten owns some film equipment that you can apply to borrow for your project. We have cameras, lighting, sound equipment and editing equipment.
Johan Lundkvist is in charge of Film i Västerbotten’s film equipment. He knows what we have and when it is available, so contact him if you have any questions.

Meeting with our consultant
Lill Casslind, Film Commissioner Production and Talent Development, will contact applicants and book a meeting (physical or digital). At the meeting, we will discuss your project, you can tell us about yourself, and Lill will take the opportunity to tell a little about Film i Västerbotten.

Film i Västerbotten’s role in your project
If your application is approved, Film i Västerbotten will co-finance your project. We can provide suggestions, advice, feedback and contacts, but we are not part of the film team.

Contract
Film i Västerbotten will sign a contract with the principal that specifies what rights Film i Västerbotten has and what you must submit when the film is finished.

When your project is completed, you must submit the following:
